Mrs. Willia Elizabeth Dickens ascended to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the age of 95 years old. She was born on Sunday, June 16, 1929, to parents, Willie Hall and Ellen C. Hall, in Uniontown, Alabama.
Willia attended Perry County Public School in Uniontown. She graduated from Alabama State College in 1957, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. It was there she met her husband, Willie Jewell Dickens.
Willia held various jobs after moving to Detroit, Michigan. She eventually moved to Lansing, Michigan where she became employed by the Lansing School District in 1970, teaching first as a substitute teacher then full-time at Michigan Avenue elementary school and then Pleasant View elementary school until she retired.
Willia was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church for forty years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening until her health rendered her unable to do so.
Willia leaves to cherish her memory two sons, William Dickens and Steven Dickens, both of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Chantel Cole, Courtney Cole, Desirae Morgan, McKenzie Dickens and Shane Young; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends,
Willia was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jewell Dickens; daughter, Rosa Jean Cole; parents, Willie and Ellen C. Hall; sisters, Velma Williams, Rebecca Harris and Sadie Hall; nieces, Tanya Watkins and Ome Williams and nephews, Earl Ivory, Eric Williams and Gary Mason.
