Mr. William Howard Doxie, Sr. "Bill" passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 79 years. William was born December 8, 1943, in Florence, Alabama, to Emmitte O’Neal Doxie Sr. and Eliza Skipworth Doxie.
Bill was raised in Saginaw, Michigan, and attended Saginaw Public Schools. He graduated from Delta College and also attended the University of Michigan, Flint extension. Bill proudly served in the United States Army and was employed by General Motors Malleable Iron as a skilled tradesman for 42 years with his last 2 years at the Grey Iron Plant. He was a member of UAW Local 455. Bill volunteered for the United Way and served as a parental advisor for the Kappa League Youth Group. Even after his retirement, Bill was able to use his plant toolbox around the house for many projects. He had tons of patience, even for the most tedious DIY crafts, and could be seen meticulously putting in each bolt or tightening each and every screw. He was an expert bowler winning numerous awards, and an exercise guru, frequenting the YMCA many times a week. Bill served on the Board at the YMCA for several years. He was an avid reader staying abreast of current affairs. He shared his knowledge with everyone that he came in contact with and was known for his ability to motivate people to be their best selves. Bill was a stranger to no one and a friend to everyone. He took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and was very involved in their activities. Bill was a Christian man who put God first. Every morning, he would start his day in scripture and meditation to God. Bill was a member of Faith Harvest Church where he served as President of the Usher Board.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Doxie; two daughters, Valerie (Clarence) White of Kansas City, Missouri, and Chanda Doxie of Taylor, Michigan; one son, William H. Jr. (Shulawn) Doxie of Okemos, Michigan; four grandchildren, Brandon Hughey, Amari White, William III, and Christian Doxie; two sisters, Christine Livingston and Sarah Johnson of Saginaw, Michigan; five sisters-in-law, Jessie Newson, Hattie Doxie and Betty Epperson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; Laverne (Mike) Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dorothy (Robert) Foster of Ypsilanti, Michigan; he also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including special friends, Douglas Williams, Wilson Jones, Homer Jones, Ozzie Brummel, and the Saturday morning breakfast club; a special nephew, Delender Holloway, who was also his barber who kept him well-groomed.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Emmite O’Neal Doxie, Sr. and Eliza Skipworth Doxie; four brothers, Robert Lewis, Emmite Jr., Tommie and Joseph Doxie; two sisters, Ester Mae Napier, and Alma Jean Pitts.
