William L. Johnson

November 21, 1927 — October 9, 2016

Mr. William Lindberg Johnson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Magnum Care of Saginaw at the blessed age of 88 years. He was born on November 21, 1927 in Grenada, Mississippi to Patty Johnson.


Mr. Johnson was raised in Grenada, Mississippi by his maternal grandparents, William (Bertie) Johnson. He later relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and finally, Saginaw, Michigan. Mr. Johnson served with the United States Army, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. After completing military service, William returned to Saginaw where he was employed by General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry), and was a member of UAW Local 668. He retired in 1988. William enjoyed sports, especially basketball. He attended many Saginaw High School basketball games. Mr. Johnson was a member of New Life Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Rufus Bradley. He served as an usher for many years until his health failed.

He leaves to cherish loving memories one first cousin, William (Lucille) Qualls; other cousins, William E. Qualls, Jr., Sabrina (Freddie) Riggins, Joyce M. Bibbs, Henry Johnson and Ritchard (Gene) Bland; many other relatives and friends including Hiram Elliott, Vera Jones, Alexander Brackett, Charles Williams and Leonard Gaines.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patty Johnson, grandparents, William (Bertie) Johnson; one aunt, Willie Mae Johnson; one uncle, Mitchell Johnson.
