William Woods

March 16, 1951 — September 9, 2018

Our beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Mr. William Barnett Woods, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at his home at the age of 67 years. His sister Early was by his side.

William, called “Bubba” by family and friends, was born March 16, 1951 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Stephen Barnett and Katie Mae Woods. He graduated from Saginaw High School, “Class of 1969.” After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army on October 22, 1969. When his service was complete, he attended Saginaw Valley State University and worked for General Motors Corporation in Saginaw, Michigan, Atlanta, Georgia, Defiance, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Bubba had a passion for being on the river trying to catch a fish or two. He watched countless hours of the Animal Planet Channel. He was like an Einstein when it came to English and Math, would challenge anyone about History.

He was a member of South 17th Church of Christ. He was a godly man and a family man. Though he did not have any children of his own, he treated his nieces and nephews like his very own. He loved spending time with his family and being in their company. His presence will be missed but forever cherished in our hearts and memories.

On September 9, 2018 when Bubba made his transition, he was reunited with his Lord; parents, Stephen Barnett and Katie Mae Woods; sisters, Phyllis Jackson, Vera Woods; grandparents, Noah and Nora Woods, Phyllis and William Bennett; nephew, Randy Jackson, Sr; and cousin Howard Bennett.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory sisters, Bettie M. Vargas, Early Rose Woods, Tracy M. Woods; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, special cousin Oscar Woods, extended family members Nolan and Earleen Smithers, Douglas Carter, Josie Couch and family, many other relatives and too many childhood friends to mention.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to great-nephew, Brandon Miller, Bubba’s sister and caregiver, Early Woods, Nurse Practitioner Patrick at DaVita Dialysis, Covenant Healthcare and St. Mary’s Hospital.
