Now in the presence of the Lord, Willie Frank Smith left his earthly tabernacle and went home on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born on December 8, 1936 in Bullock County, Union Springs, Alabama to L.C. and Australia Smith.
Willie accepted Christ at an early age. Upon moving to Bay City, Michigan, he completed his high school education from the Bay City Public School District. After graduation from high school, he attended Bay City Junior College as well as Northeastern School of Commerce. Willie was an accomplished athlete who earned his letter in track, basketball and football. He was also a dedicated and skilled instrumentalist where he faithfully served as the primary musician for the Mass and Celestial choir of The Historic Second Baptist Church for many years. In addition, Brother Smith served as a secretary and a teacher of the Sunday School Department.
Willie was a First Degree of Class A Bay City Masons. He worked as a carpenter, painter, landscaper and tax consultant. More importantly, Willie was a father who stood strong in his beliefs in God as he raised his children to love and respect others. He truly relished his time spent with his children, grandchildren and family.
Willie is survived by his children, six boys and five girls, Galen of Battle Creek, Michigan, Garwood of Hemlock, Michigan, Paul of Chicago, Illinois, Kevin, Brian and Tyler Smith, all of Bay City, Michigan; Chara Smith-Marshall of Albion, Michigan, Pranda Smith, Charity Smith, Dawn Elder and Tammy Kinsley, all of Bay City, Michigan; In addition, he leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Willie is predeceased in death by two sons, one daughter, his parents, one sister and one grandson. The Smith Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for your prayers, presence, love, telephone calls and all other expressions of concern that you have shown during our time of bereavement. Never more than now is your kindness needed and more appreciated.
