Mr. Willie James Lee passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at MagnumCare of Saginaw. Age 86 years. He was born December 18, 1927 in Springville, Mississippi to Eddie and Leatha Ann (Branch) Lee.
Willie was a Korean War combat veteran who earned a Purple Heart. He retired from the Chicago Police Department and went on to work as a security officer for Hershey Candy Company in Chicago, Illinois. Willie was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert Harris. He loved his church home and reading his Bible. Willie was a tailor who enjoyed sewing, making quilts and clothing. He was a great cook who loved feeding people in general. His greens and cornbread was a hard act to follow. Willie enjoyed playing bingo, card games and baseball. He was a gentle man of few words but would light up any room with his smile. Willie loved his family and friends but most of all he loved the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Mrs. Pearlie Mae Simmons, Mrs. Mary Ann Jones, Mrs., Ethel Strong and Mrs. Catherine Walker; Willie never used the word stepchild when he was married. He was also a father to Boggie, Dewayne, Pam and Little Glenda; nineteen grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Lee Keidel, Mrs. Eddie Mae Dickson and Doris Ann West; three brothers, Mr. Robert Lee, Mr. Albert Lee and Mr. John Lee; his very special niece, Mrs. Marva Guster; several nieces including, Carrie Lee Holiday, Crystal Guster and Simone Kindreds; one great-great-niece, Mari Beckham; several nephews including one very special nephew, Dwayne Agnew; two aunts, Christine Jones and Lela Branch; three sisters-in-law, Josie Mae Lee, Evelyn Lee and Billie Lee; many other relatives and friends including his special friends, Mr. Carl Ware, Ms. Rose and his many friends at Westchester Village, Dorothy West, Pastor Robert and Mary Harris, Evelyn Lee, Pam and Glenda of Chicago, Illinois, Hollywood and Josie Mae Lee.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Leatha Lee, his only son, Willie Lee Jr., his brother and best friend, George Lee, brothers, Melvin and William Lee, sixteen other sisters and brothers.
The family wishes to express special thanks to St. Marys of Michigan Medical Center, Pastor Robert and Mrs. Mary Harris and the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church family, the Mt. Sinai Male chorus, sister-in-law, Josie Lee for always being there to check on him and Dr. Malloy at the Veterans Hospital.
