Willie Mae Hinton (Lansing)

November 19, 1953 — April 9, 2021

Ms. Willie Mae Hinton was called home Friday, April 9, 2021, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Age 67 years. She was fondly known as “Willa Mae” by her family and friends. Willa Mae was the seventh child and the fourth daughter born to Ulee and Georgia Taylor on November 19, 1953 in Hollandale, Mississippi.

Willa Mae relocated to Lansing, Michigan with her family and was employed at General Motors for 17 years. She later worked in Nursing and Home Health Care until she retired. She loved spending tie with her family, having fun with her sisters, children, and grandchildren. Willa Mae was a member of New Hope Church of God and Christ under the pastorate of the late Elder Willie Wade. She loved going to the Goodwill stores, Volunteers of America, rummage sales and house decorating.

Willa Mae leaves to cherish her memory 3 wonderful children, Trinisha (Michael) Smith, John Hinton, and Keegan Hinton all of Lansing, Michigan; 8 grandchildren, 5 sisters, Sherly Henton of Gary, Indiana, Bettye (Lionel) Gibbs, Willie Mena Clay, Teressia Abbas and Levon Mugashe all of Lansing, Michigan; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Taylor of Gary, Indiana, whom she had a special bond and Emily Taylor of Mesa, Arizona; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leon, Darren, Ulee, Jr., and Jessie Taylor; and sister, Stella DeShazer.
