Yulinda Peace

October 25, 1961 — January 10, 2023

Yulinda Renae Peace was born in Hollandale, Mississippi, on October 25, 1961, to the late Ola Jones Peace and the late Oscar Charles Peace, Jr. She transitioned peacefully on January 10, 2023, at the United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital, Marlette, Michigan.

When Yulinda was a young child, she and her mother moved from Hollandale, Mississippi, to Saginaw, Michigan, where her mother pursued her teaching career in the Saginaw Public School District. Her maternal grandmother later joined them from Montgomery, Alabama.

Yulinda thrived in Saginaw, as she participated in a variety of activities. She had a wealth of friends, and completed her high school education. Upon graduating from high school, Yulinda attended Fisk University, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was very intelligent, smart, gifted, witty, insightful, and strong-willed. She was an avid reader and extremely interested in history and current events. As a result, Yulinda was always able to engage in an interesting conversation. Even though her struggles with bipolarism interfered with her desire to receive a college degree, she continued to take college courses periodically and, until the very end, she held onto the goal of completing her college education. While Yulinda’s illness prevented her from achieving her educational goals, she enjoyed different work experiences. She usually found employment in areas that enabled her to advocate for and help others with similar health struggles.

Yulinda is survived by her brother, Oscar Charles Peace, III (Crystal) of Charles Town, West Virginia; a niece, Olivia Peace, Charles Town, West Virginia; stepmother, Matilda Peace, Hollandale Mississippi; three aunts, Jonnelle Sweetner, Munster, Indiana, Doris Peace Pearl, Highland, Indiana, and Marva Peace-Jackson, Silver Spring, Maryland; first cousins, Mark Pearl, Greenville, Mississippi, John-Paul Stephens, Munster, Indiana, and Emma-Sarah Stephens of Rockville, Maryland; numerous other cousins, relatives, and friends.

Yulinda was preceded in death by her mother, Ola Peace Jones, father, Oscar C. Peace, Jr., and grandmother, Eliza Wilder.

The family would like to thank all of Yulinda’s friends and the caregivers who provided for her during her journey. A special thanks to those who cared for her during the final stage of life.
