Ms. Zoredie Hicks, affectionately known as “Zoe, “ passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison at the blessed age of 95 years. She was born on August 3, 1922 in Smackover, Arkansas to William Henry Harrison Washington and Leola Evaleola Sykes-Washington.
Ms. Hicks was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She spent many years working in healthcare as a nurse. She was a member and Church Mother at St. Luke Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Absalom Smith. Mother loved to fish, listen to gospel music and cook. She cooked many special dishes, but the family favorite was her Hot Water Cornbread and Cabbage Greens. Mother will be missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.
Zoe leaves to cherish her memory three grandsons, Marquist (Rita ‘Boo’) Williams, Terrance (Polandra) Williams and Pierre Williams, all of Saginaw, Michigan; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; special great-granddaughter, Markeisha Stevenson; many nieces including Betty Johnson and Ethel Beck; many great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Hicks, daughters, Marilyn Martin and Selma Lee Martin; grandson, Anthony Williams; parents, William and Leola Washington; sisters, Sybil Hughes, Rosa Lee Cartwright and Ozie B. McKenny; brothers, Obie, A.G., Willie D., Ruben and John Washington; and grandson, Anthony Clint Williams.
The family expresses special thanks to extended family and friends for your prayers, visits, calls and other expressions of kindness during our bereavement. A very special thanks to Terrance Williams, Audreanna Stevenson, Willie Rodgers, Jauqee Terry and Gertis Strong.
